Word out of Buffalo is Chris Pronger sat down with the GM and asked to be traded to a contender before the deadline. After numerous phone calls to a few other GMs in the league, a deal was struck Monday morning. The Sabres would send Pronger and center Travis Zajac to Detroit in return for speedy sniper Marion Gaborik. The trade marks Zajacs return to Detroit after not really finding his role here in Buffalo. Said Zajac, "I'm excited at the chance to contend for the cup as well as return to Detroit. I have a lot of good friends there. I enjoyed my time in Buffalo and thank the organization and they're fans for the constan support."
The Sabres also recieved the Red Wings 1st round pick in this upcoming offseasons entry draft, adding to the recently acquired 2nd rounder from San Jose. GM Beltram had to say that "It's not quite a rebuild, but more of a retooling. The players we've traded were not living up to expectations nor their contracts, so we feel that now that we have a solid core, this draft should help solidify the roster and make the Sabres a top franchise for years to come." He also added that he is willing to make another move or two at the deadline for more picks or a missing piece. Although the GM mentioned no names, this writer believes that winger Thomas Vanek may be on his way out of Buffalo.

Boston GM Frankie Benfari has been a bit skeptical as to the recent trades surge of late. His remarks in an interview with MVSPN were "These late trades where everyone thinks a fuckin guy who is rated in the high 80s (MVCC league rankings) will play great is ridiculous! As far as not performing, why don't these assholes just pay them what they're really worth!? Then maybe they would perform!"
Mr Benfari was fined 10k for his vulgar language which may have been cause by the Kovalchuck trade to Detroit a few weeks back. More news to come...
